Alsace
(15)
|
| 40% of France's Appellation Controllée white wine comes from Alsace, and yet it makes up barely 2% of UK wine sales. We're missing out, and the super wines from houses such as Gassmann and Trimbach provide perfect examples of how complex and delicious these wines can be. |

Argentina
(18)
|
| Argentina, with its Hispano-Italian traditions, is the only country outside Europe with a natural wine culture. Over the past ten years the wine industry in Argentina has experienced the greatest growth in its history, mainly due to a rise in exports, as well as an increasing amount of domestic consumption and considerable investment in the industry. |

Bordeaux
(98)
|
Though the Bordelaise can be vexingly arrogant, we believe that the wines, when at their best, are more than worth the cost and grief. Hal’s our Bordeaux buyer and he approaches the task with gritty ruthlessness – he’s not to be impressed by names, and never tempted by the Bordeaux trade’s blackmail and bullying – “an allocation of (recently well-reviewed) Chateau X? Bien-sur, mon ami, bien-sur, just place a little order, just a few pallets, of Chateaux (rubbish) Y and Z…” Our position as a major en primeur dealer to Colleges gives us the huge advantage that we can buy at first price and in large quantity, directly from the Chateaux and dealers. We buy from different Chateaux each year depending on price and quality, so we have an excellent range and it’s great value. We love white Bordeaux too and Sauternes, which are listed in our Dessert wines section. For en primeur please refer to the En Primeur Section of the site.

Burgundy
(60)
|
| We’re loyal to about ten family growers who are generally regarded as top class by those in the know, and we irregularly dabble with various negociants. Loyalty can in fact be a terrible mistake in Burgundy as quality and value can go horribly wrong so quickly. Hal makes a trip once a year to visit our growers and taste the latest releases. We only do en primeur campaigns for outstanding vintages, and mostly in the £8 to £15 range. We don’t bother at all with the most sought-after Grand Crus as, to be frank, they are poor value. Lesser known regions such as St-Aubin, Santenay, the Chalonais and Maconnais always feature on our list, as do the best of the Beaujolais Crus. |

Champagne
(61)
|
| A nice glass of Cava or Asti might do very well indeed for those glorious summer picnics but when it comes to celebrating the milestones in our lives most of us still reach for the Champagne. It is not just the name; it is the tiny bubbles, the creamy biscuity flavours, the elegance. Mind you, Champagne is not just for special occasions. In its many guises Champagne is the perfect food partner: try a NV Brut as an aperitif, with seafood, fish or more adventurously with a good curry; vintage Champagne works well with poultry, white meat and mushrooms; a rosé may take on lamb and beef dishes whilst demi-secs are good with light, fruity puddings. Spoilt for choice really. |

En Primeur Sales
(41)
|
One of the best ways to buy wines - whilst they are still young, before they have been bottled and released onto the market, thereby securing much better value for money. You will also benefit from staggered payments. You pay for the wine now, but you only pay for the duty and VAT charges when the goods are delivered, normally two years after sale. Conditions of Sale: En Primeur wines are sold in cases of 6 or 12 x 75cl. Prices are quoted lying in the Chateau and do not include duty, shipping, insurance, delivery and VAT which will be charged on shipment where applicable. Offers are subject to availability. |

Fortified
(130)
|
| Port, Sherry, Madeira. Names that conjure up the essence of British involvement in the production and import of quality wine over centuries. Today, fortified wines are cherished by fewer people but probably with greater zeal than ever. Such uniformly high quality wines are not found in any other regions and bang for buck they offer extraordinary value. As IWC Fortified Specialists of the year 2010, we have the range and expertise to help you in your rediscovery of Port, Sherry and Madeira and hope you enjoy reading about the wines listed. |

Italy
(94)
|
Although we’re deeply proud of our Italian range, it’s grossly unbalanced as most of it is Tuscan. We just love proper Tuscan sangiovese - we visit the region often and put a lot of effort (and pleasure) into sourcing the best wines. Veneto does well, especially Amarone, Piedmont features but value for money is always a curse, Campania for Greco etc, and the far south for meaty Primitivo.
We stock a good range of Cesari wines, who regularly feature in IWC awards ceremonies and were named Italian Wine Producer of the Year 2006 (& 2004). Cesari is particularly noted for the exceptional quality of its Amarones but also its wide range of fine Veneto wines at all price points. |

Languedoc-Roussillon
(111)
|
| With the worldwide excess production of wine the Languedoc area has been actively replanting with varieties intended to produce better quality wines. Today, increasingly, Grenache, Syrah, Merlot, Cinsaut, Mourvedre, Sauvignon and Viognier are used for wine making. Languedoc is becoming a respected producer of quality wines, and many domains produce wines that command high prices. |

New Zealand
(36)
|
Discover flavours, discover sensations, discover value, discover prizes. In every glass of New Zealand wine is a world of pure discovery. Visit www.nzwine.com for more information.
Several wine writers say they’re bored stiff of NZSB (Sauvignon Blanc) but we’re still keen, our customers too. Recent developments with “new” white varieties such as Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and (less so) Riesling are all very exciting, if sometimes a bit soapy, and we’re on a mission to bring you the best of them. Reds I’m far from convinced about - I have tried some stunning Pinot Noirs however, but the price! They make Burgundy look good value! And what’s this trend for Sauvignon Blanc from infant (like 18 months old) vines? Sounds like an excuse for not waiting several years until they yield proper fruit. |

Whisky
(268)
|
| We’ve been working hard on our whisky selection over the last two years and we now boast a carefully thought-out range of about 200, many of them rare and unusual. Our status with the leading suppliers in the whisky trade gives us superb access to the most interesting malts – we are now one of a small group of official “ Diageo Whisky Specialists” (Diageo own around a third of Scotland’s distilleries) and have Regional Distributor status with Gordon and MacPhail, and Signatory Vintage, the two leading independent bottlers. |
